The first edition of the Contest id·Arte Madrid Recycle which aims to raise awareness on recycling and environmental conservation through artistic creation.
id·Arte Madrid Recycle is betting on creativity to draw attention to the different recycling possibilities offered through artistic disciplines such as ephemeral architecture and cinema, showing that many of the things that are thrown away and considered useless can be recycled to create something new, and not just aesthetic.
The jury, consisting of Rodrigo Sorogoyen, who heads the Audiovisual Section, the young architect Sofia Black-Santos – currently continuing her education at Harvard University – and the painter and designer Carlos Macia – a recipient of the prestigious Pollock Krasner Award- heads Section Installation.
Also forming part of the jury is Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson – current director of ECAM, the Madrid School of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts, and producer of films such as No Rest for the Wicked and 8 Basque Surnames, Rufino Ferreras, head of Education Development of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, director of educational portal www.educathyssen.org and projects as www.c2edumtb.org or www.aquipintamostodos.edu about arts education and museums.
The first edition of this event offers total awards of 14,500 €, divided into two sections: Audiovisual and Installation. In addition to financial support, the award includes promotion of the artist’s works through the channels broadcast partner companies.
In the case of the Audiovisual Section, 7,500 € in prize money will be divided between three winners selected by the jury. The three winning works will be exhibited publicly through different channels available to the organization and collaborating institutions.
In the case of Installation art, the prize winners will be given help to produce their works, with a maximum budget of 3500 € for the construction of each of the winning projects. In addition, as part of the prize, the two winning entries will be displayed in different IFEMA fairs.
The call for entries closes 31 October. All projects submitted, without exception, must be made mostly of recycled materials. Contestants may consult the terms of the contest and submit the application form at www.idarterecicla.com
The awards will be announced the last quarter of 2014 in the Callao Cinema in Madrid, where the winning works will be displayed.
