Montes de Galicia restaurant in Madrid

Opened in 1997 by Jose Espasandín, the restaurant Montes de Galicia in Calle Azcona, 41, has recently been renewed and the decoration brings together into one space cuisine and cocktails. The restaurant also offers an extensive menu of snacks and wine in the bar area.

Commanding the kitchen is chef Josevi Mendez (who has worked in restaurants such as Rita Sibarita and Granvía Uno, and alongside chefs as Ramon Freixá), providing a creative touch to dishes without losing their Galician roots.

The decoration, by interior design studio Denys & Von Arend, bears in mind the spirit of Galicia, with a modern twist. Tradition is expressed through decorative elements like white and blue ceramic tiles, a landscaped courtyard, large shelves and thoughtful lighting.

The space and the food transport you to the north of Spain, market products and traditional Galician recipes made with cutting-edge techniques.
We recommend first snacking at the bar, trying the homemade pie of sardines with tomato and lemon and octopus (pulpo a feira) with Picual extra virgin olive oil.

Antonio (the maître) of the restaurant) recommended an excellent Rioja called El Puntido.
Now in winter there’s nothing better than a Galician soup, followed by fillet of beef with roast potatoes, candied cherry tomatoes with herb butter or wheat beer tempura tacos of hake.

For dessert try the Galician cheese pie and crepe with cream, two homemade desserts that impress.

El Columpio, new restaurant in Madrid

A few months ago the restaurant ‘El Columpio‘  opened at  C/Caracas, 10  a new project from restauranteur Stephen Arnáiz, who also owns ‘Le Cocó‘, which we reviewed in an earlier post.
El Columpio‘ is located in the Almagro section of Chamberí and is open all day (09:00 to 00.00), so you can go for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just have a drink after work at the bar.
The cuisine by chef Juan Rioja offers Mediterranean dishes such as ravioli of fresh prawn, squid tentacles, beef cheeks, pork confit with pears in wine or verdins with black sausage, prawns and squid noodles.
We recommend the eggplant sticks with honey, wok mushrooms, artichokes, and green asparagus. You should also try the mushroom pizza with truffle.

For dessert try the homemade cakes as carrot cake or coulant au chocolate with vanilla ice cream.
The architect Marta Banus designed ‘El Columpio‘ with three distinct spaces.
First the bar, very rustic with traditional tools hanging on the walls and wood beams on the ceiling.

The chic and sophisticated front room, with its cocktail bar, has 1920’s inspired retro lamps, gilt mirrors and colored velvet sofas.
And finally a more informal space, with tables and stools and a relaxed ambiance.

Today we introduce a new restaurant in Madrid that is already causing a sensation.

Located in Madrid’s Chamberí neighbour (Ponzano, 6), this contemporary Spanish restaurant with warm, colonial-inspired decor is perfect for a romantic dinner or to meet up with friends.

Sergi Arola Gastro restaurant

One of the most famous restaurants in Madrid, Sergi Arola was the first chef in the world to be awarded two Michelin stars at once.

Dine in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, with dim lighting and dark leather tablecloths.

First you are offered hors d’oeuvres and a selection of tapas “Las locuras de Sergi Arola”, an innovative take on classic Spanish cuisine: gazpacho, a miniature calamari sandwich, shrimp omelet and patatas bravas.

Next you are served in a ceramic bowl in the shape of a tin can, “False tuna” which is actually finely chopped beets.



The bread, olive oil and butter are all homemade and delicious.


For starters we recommend the homemade pumpkin ravioli with celery and smoked eggplant puree on a bed of spinach.


As a main course, we recommend the twice cooked duck with pears stuffed with wine foie. Exquisite.


For dessert, we recommend the chocolate dish called “Chocolate gives life” served in a small pale.


The presentation, flavors and textures of the dishes, as well as the great care that you receive from the attentive waiters, who carefully explain each dish, make for a special experience.
